NetXed Reports

Provide greater access to information throughout the organization.

NetXed Reports is a browser-based enterprise reporting system with a security module that can produce, distribute and manage report requirements across all departments or applications. To do this effectively, NetXed Reports provides a number of critical features without which a claim of "Enterprise Reporting" is empty.

  • Security - Controls who can access which reports, and what scope of data they can request for a given report.
  • Organization - Reports are organized into groups (e.g. Loans, Auditing, Accounting, Human Resources, etc.) controlled through flexible menus and tied to Security.
  • Flexibility - Criteria built into the report definitions (dates, departments, personnel, prompted fields, etc.) can be specified by the requestor.
  • Data Management - NetXed Reports supports distributed report generation so that the data being reported on stays where it is. You do not have to move data to a central database or create snapshots, even if the source is in another server, city or state. The report is created local to the data and only the finished report is moved across the network.

Report Configuration

NetXed Reports allows you to define prompted fields plus selection views for each report. Unlimited views of the organization such as Cities, Area Managers, Stores, etc. can be defined. Report Views can be made of explicitly defined entries (e.g. Area Managers and their stores), dynamic queries of any available information, departments, etc., or combinations of both. Through the Security module these Views are assigned security tokens which in turn authorize user groups to access the portions of the View they are configured to see.

Thus a central HR manager may be able to see all Areas, while an Area Manager can only request data for their own area.

  • Each report is also controlled through the Security subsystem.
  • NetXed Reports supports organizing reports into groups called classes, which are then accessed under configurable menus.

Report Output

Each user can specify which default format to use: PDF, XLS and RPT. PDF format assumes that Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on each end user computer. NetXed Reports includes a freely distributable Crystal report viewer to support the RPT format.

NetXed Reports keeps links to each user's completed reports in an individualized report list for a designated retention period. Report lists are maintained by report class, so if a user picks Loan Reports from the menu, only Loan Reports are in the list. If they select Sales Reports, only the Sales Reports are listed. Users can then redisplay any report previously requested in the retention period with a single click. To further facilitate report access, the user can enter a title that becomes the text of the link in their report list. Finally, users can delete reports from their list prior to them being aged off automatically by the system.

Report Generation

NetXed Reports uses a distributed processing design. One Report Generator (RG) is required for the initial installation. It can be on any computer local to the main NeXed database and can support 2,000 to 3,000 reports per month. As many RGs as necessary can be installed to:

  1. Keep each RG local to the data it is reporting
  2. Load balance as the volume of requested reports grows
  3. Provide dedicated RG's for users/reports with special requirements.

A single RG can handle several thousand report requests per month, but uneven request distribution or requests for large reports from certain departments may indicate a need to install additional RGs. Since RGs are simple to install, do not require dedicated high-end servers and involve no additional licensing costs, there is no reason not to install them as needed.

Report Customization

NetXed includes browser-based Admin pages to define the reports, control security, assign them to classes and menus, define which report generator to use, etc. Access to the Admin functions is part of the Security control.

Reports templates are created using Crystal Reports v10 or above. Report Generators use only redistributable components so do not require additional Crystal licenses. If you have a licensed copy of Crystal Reports v10 you can do any or all report creation internally. You can also contract with Point Enterprises to have reports created or modified, or to assist your internal staff.

Any existing report can be modified and any number of new reports can be created. Reports may cover any departments, applications, or data sources as long as it is part of the enterprise network.

Security

NetXed Reports includes a comprehensive security subsystem that lets you control not only who can access which features, but the scope of information they can view. The security model is group based with security tokens created to tie group members to the various features and functions. It can be interfaced with domain security groups.

Summary

  • Define what reports are in the system.
  • Organize the reports into related groups and associate the groups under menus.
  • Control what security groups can access what menus and reports
  • Create unlimited views of branches, departments, personnel, accounts, etc. and access these views in a variety of ways as appropriate for each report.
  • Control how much of a view a user can see when accessing a report.
  • Automatically create and manage individual lists of requested reports kept for a defined retention period.
